Lee
Lee Roy Selmon has a story that has a family history of scholarship football and community service. First family he is the youngest of the nine children of Lucious and Jessie Semon who grew up on the farm of Eufala, Oklahoma. In football, he played with three of his brothers from Oklahoma. Three of them made All-America. The year was 1973. Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy received the Outland & Lombardi Awards for being the leading lineman of the nation. Oklahoma has won two National Championships during his time as a starting linebacker. A third scholarship saw him named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon obtained his degree in education. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer time per week throughout the college. In Tampa the Buccaneers, he was a player for the Buccaneers over nine years and was an all-pro. Also, he began a career in the field of business. In 1988, he joined the ranks of an account manager for Tampa's First Florida Bank. He also worked with the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. So it's not surprising that in 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy one of the country's the top 10 most promising young males. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in height and weighed 256 pounds in his college days. He was captain of the team in 1975. He was hired by the University of South Florida in 1993 as the assistant director of sports. In 1988, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. The same year, he also was inducted into his way into the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He and his parents Lucious and Mary Selmon Jr. received the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. The award presentation was given by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
